Twelve yeas ago, I came to Budapest via Keleti pályudvar and fell in love with the city the moment I got off the train. Four months later, I flew back and set out to purchase an apartment. I found mine near the City Park, on a leafy green street that reminded me of my native Brooklyn, New York.
For eleven years, it served as my sanctuary. When I got fed up with life in the U.S., I’d decamp to Budapest for months at a time. The previous owner had done a renovation of sorts, and I lived with her choices…many of which were head scratchers.
Over the last year, I’d thought long and hard about renovating my apartment. I’ve gone through many renovations and didn’t want to do two things, manage contractors or shop for anything from furniture to fixtures.
Enter Salt Design.
When I met Inez and Tünde, I knew I could trust them with my home. They exude confidence and calm and assured me that the 120+ year old historical elements I loved would be preserved and integrated into design choices.
The downside of remodeling from top to bottom meant I had to leave for several months. In December/January, I handed over the keys and asked only one thing, that they have everything ready so I could come back in June. They did a Michelle Khare and said, ‘challenge accepted.’
Though I was abroad for most of the renovations, I never had a qualm that things weren’t being handled. Every ‘surprise’ (read: disaster lurking in the walls) was managed with professionalism and calm. The biggest upside was that I had to make very few shopping choices.
It was done on time and on budget. My home is beautiful and fits my particular lifestyle to a ’T.’
